Welcome to the website of the Agni Animal Welfare Fund, we will from time to time update this page with the latest news of what is happening with the animals you have helped and how we have used your donations. We will also add to this page any emergency appeals and animals that need urgent help. If you would like to know more about who we are and what we are trying to achieve, please read the 'about us' and 'how you can help' pages. There are some stories to read about the Cats, Dogs and Puppies that we have already helped during the two years and some information on the Donkey's. Enjoy our website and we hope that you can find a way in which to support us.

News Update – June 2008

Hello everyone, time is certainly flying by and we are now halfway into 2008. We have been very busy the first half of this year and the AAWF has neutered many more Corfu cats. It is an endless battle though and although there are now areas where we can see a remarkable difference we still have many more people and areas asking for our help.

We have found and treated many sick cats this Spring and we have been learning more about the problems that these animals suffer with having to live outside in the wild. We are finding that if the cats are kept in at night they stand a far better chance of survival, unfortunately that is not possible for the majority of cats on Corfu but anyone who does have a Corfu cat/cats try and shut them in somewhere for the night.

Little Socs Story
Amongst the sick cats we have helped this Spring visit was a poor little girl that was hit by a car earlier in the year and suffered a broken leg. She was taken to the vets, had her leg bandaged and we were told to allow the leg to heal on its own as it was not possible to do any more other than a very expensive operation. Her leg began to heal slowly but because of her injury the vet would not neuter her and said we had to wait another month.

Well of course the inevitable happened and she became pregnant. When we could see she was heavily pregnant we took her to the vet for confirmation and was told that the kittens should be due but there seemed to be a problem, the kittens were not moving. We were told to giver her four more days, on the fourth day the little cat started to try and deliver her kittens, but after several hours no kittens had arrived and she began to look very stressed. We rushed her to the vet that evening where she had an emergency operation. Two or three hours more and we would have been too late, but fortunately the vet managed to save her. Unfortunately her kittens were dead and with her broken leg and a complication with the leg joint (caused by the car accident) it made it difficult for her to deliver the kittens herself. The little cat is now fully recovered and living a normal life, she was of course neutered during her operation. Her leg has healed well, she has a limp but is managing fine and is in no pain. Fortunately we were able to help this little girl because of your donations.

Tea Bag
latest update from his home in the UK - by Judie
Well he arrived safe and sound courtesy of Dave McJackson and his white van and instantly got on with his housemate Milly an English Setter, although I think she had reservations for the first week or so as he did seem rather like a juvenile delinquent, but lovely with it of course.

After a few days he found his feet and began to find his escape routes out of what was thought to be a secure garden - luckily a phone number had promptly been put on his collar so he was back home fairly quickly.

He seemed to pace quite alot which we originally put down to him being in a strange place until he settled down but it didn't stop. It was pointed out by a friend that was also a dog trainer that perhaps he was affected by the additives in the biscuits he was having - wow a week later he was a different dog and much calmer, yes he still bounces alot but has stopped pacing unless the fox is in the garden teasing him through the window.  This also meant that he didn't make as many escape attempts, mind you new  fencing also put paid to that.

He's taken out for walks across the fields behind us with milly twice a day and loves it - we've even found a way to tire him out just throw tenis balls, he doesn't bring them back and likes to chew them to bits but we always have two with us to distract him, Teabag is very happy in his new home and it didn't take long for Milly to take to him as she shares her bed with him every night now.

WSPA
The AAWF is pleased to announce that we are now affiliated to WSPA one of the largest animal charities in Britain.
The World Society for the Protection of Animals is the world’s largest network for animal welfare. It brings together 910 member societies in 153 countries and a whole community of individuals around the world who care about animal welfare. WSPA can offer us, their experience, help and advice and can assist us with political matters and education much needed to help the Greek strays.

At present I am back in the UK taking a short break from neutering but still working for the AAWF at this end. We are trying to find ways to raise more funds to keep the neutering and feeding going at the end of the season. Any suggestions or offers of help are very welcome. We urgently need more sponsors, fundraisers and support for the many cats awaiting our help.
